Good News for Humankind 🌏

Your daily spark of possibility β€” one real milestone for change from around the world.

The U.N. grants international protection to 40 new migratory species

At the CMS COP15 summit in Campo Grande, Brazil, 132 nations expanded UN migratory species protections on March 29, 2026, adding 40 animals β€” including the snowy owl, giant otter, striped hyena, and great hammerhead shark β€” to the treaty's legally binding protection lists.

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species now covers more than 1,200 unique species. A new UN interim report released at the summit found that 49% of already-protected species populations are declining and 24% face extinction.

The decisions set binding conservation obligations for member nations and signal that coordinated international action remains the strongest tool available to slow wildlife loss.

You've read the good news. Now, start making your own.

The impossible vastness of the universe

Our best estimates now suggest there are more stars in the observable universe than grains of sand on all of Earth's beaches. The actual universe beyond what we can see might be significantly, if not infinitely, larger than that.

The universe is also almost 14 billion years old β€” and stars are expected to keep forming for at least another 20 or so billion years, if not trillions.

If there is life around just the tiniest fraction of those stars, there are countless other planets with "intelligent" life, capable of love, belonging, beauty, and creativity. And there will be countless more to come in the vast amount of time after us.

So I promise you: Whatever your mind is worried about or fixated on today is not nearly as important or all-consuming as it seems. Even if it feels like our whole world is collapsing.

That's not meant as an excuse to turn away from it or sweep it under the rug β€” just a way to reorient to it. With a more expansive perspective, you can engage fully and meaningfully with today's chaotic, painful world without being consumed by it.

And if you want, I can help you do just that.

Love,
Peter
