Washington state enacts historic millionaires’ tax

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson signed the Millionaires' Tax into law on March 30, 2026, creating the state's first-ever tax on income above $1 million.

Less than half of 1% of residents will pay it β€” but millions will benefit. The revenue funds free K-12 school meals, expands the Working Families Tax Credit to 460,000 additional households, cuts taxes for 138,000 small businesses, and invests more than $320 million in affordable childcare.

After nearly a century of one of the most regressive tax structures in the country, Washington is rewriting the rules.

Drink more water

Over the last decade-plus, I've gone deep into my emotional landscape β€” examining the shame and toxic beliefs I picked up from childhood pain and culture, grieving everything I've lost and that didn't go to plan.

When I hit a wall in life, low energy, stuck patterns, difficult relationships, my instinct has always been to look inward. I've gone to dark, painful, complicated places to find the answers.

And it has genuinely transformed my life.

But lately, that approach feels like it's hitting a ceiling. Maybe I've done enough of that work for now. Maybe the well isn't dry, but I've drunk enough from it for now.

The solutions that actually feel most alive to me right now aren't psychological at all. They're embarrassingly simple. They're about my body. Here's the recipe:

  • Sleep at least seven hours, preferably eight, every day.
  • Drink more water than seems reasonable every day.
  • Eat whole, green foods every day.
  • Move my body every day.
  • Get outside every day.

That's it. And this regimen β€” this almost insultingly basic regimen β€” has been just as vital to clearing the fog, steadying my mood, and unlocking forward motion as the inner excavation I've done. It's so effective I almost worry it'll put me out of a job.

The answers don't always live in the depths. Sometimes they're sitting right there in the basic goodness all around us, waiting for us to stop overthinking and just drink a glass of water.

And I still need constant reminders.

Love,
Peter
